France: Yellow Vests movement to stage protest march in Paris Aug. 5

Oct 10, 2023Oct 10, 2023

Activists associated with the Yellow Vests (Gilets Jaunes) movement plan to stage a protest march in central Paris Aug. 5. The purpose of the action is to draw attention to several issues, including the perceived low salary levels, the retirement age increase, and France's alleged involvement in the Russo-Ukrainian War, among other things. Participants will gather at Place Mohammed-V at 13:00 before marching to the intersection of Boulevard Ornano and Rue Belliard at 14:15. The demonstration route will transit the Pont de Sully, before moving along Henri IV, Richard Lenoir, Voltaire, Magenta, Barbes, and Ornano boulevards. It is unclear how many participants the gathering will attract.

Authorities will almost certainly deploy additional police to monitor the demonstration. Localized transport and business disruptions are likely. Low-level violence, especially targeted at the police, cannot be ruled out.

Avoid the demonstration as a standard precaution. Consider alternate travel routes and allow extra time to circumvent the impacted area. Follow local transport and security advice. Immediately leave the site at the first sign of any security disturbance.
